Project Information

The Nobilitas is a project of both experimental micro history research and of collaborative film production. The aim of the project is to produce a series of short films. Each episode concentrates into one theme and consist of dialogues by members of nobilitas, the highest elite of the Roman republic.

In Nobilitas extraordinary care is taken to ensure the authencity of milieu, costumes and language. Languages used are classical Greek and Latin. All events and personage are strictly historical, only interpretative freedom taken is for things for which we have no sources. Educational purpose of the project is to communicate about ancient Roman culture by the medium of short films.

Collaborative film making

Project is carried out mostly on the wreckamovie.com platform of collaborative film making. Anyone is free to join to the production and give his contribution. Click here for free access to the Wreckamovie production environment.

Collaborative film making is a new approach to making films. In some ways it is part of the social media environment that has been floursihing in the Internet in the past decade or so. It is also one answer to the needs of consumers to take part into production of the cultural products they consume.

In the Nobilitas project the collaborative film making technique is utilized because of the very vast variety of talents and people needed in the production of each episode. Internet community and networks of talented people involved are the key factors to the succesful production of a project like Nobilitas.

Schedule and funding

The project is on planning stages currently and has no definitive schedule. The broad aim is to select the themes for dialogues, each episode of the series, before the end of 2009. In 2010 the aim is finalize script for each episode and start seeking funding for the project. Actual production schedules will depend on these negotiations.
